There are lots of leather chews and toys in the house to defend against this fearsome WMD!
Clear weather and high energy allowed the successful launch of Bailey Whippet today.
Despite the energetic greeting, the other dog abandoned the chase game once he found out how fast Bailey was. However Bailey got some exercise anyway as he ran circles around his new friend trying to coax him into action.
Well that was an entertaining 4 minutes. That old toy survived Breezer's puppy-hood, but just wasn't tough enough to make it through another whippet. Last week he got a hold of a long (pencil shaped) eraser - we haven't discovered where he stashed it, but every day he brings a few pieces of it out on display.
The wily whippet hides in the tall grass and pounces on unsuspecting passers-by.
Bailey and the bird share guard duty on his favourite little hill. It's not a possession thing, just watching for play opportunities - if he sees another dog, he'll run off to greet.
This is what other dogs see when Bailey turns on the jets....as he pulls away in a spray of snow.
It's hard to catch a whippet in full flight and still get a sharp photo, so when things fall into place it's time to show off. Here's another shot of Bailey burning off some happy energy during a "warm" spell. He started with his jacket on but once we got moving, the sun made it comfy to go with natural fur at -7c.
It warmed up to a balmy -7c today and after a couple of cold days being cooped up inside, Bailey was a happy camper.
After shots at the vet and the usual playtime in the park, it was time to recharge and get ready for tomorrow - after all, a whippet's "work" is never done. And why use a boring pet bed when there's a perfectly good leather couch?
Some people have booties for their dogs but I've never tried them on a sighthound. I think they would cramp Bailey's style and prevent him from making fast turns like above.
He was involved in a very amusing round of play a couple of days ago with a couple of border collies - too bad I didn't have my camera with me. The bc's tried to herd Bailey, who effortlessly squirted out of their grasp time after time with a big grin on his face, just happy to have a reason to run around. The bc's were getting a little frustrated, and at the end of it they were huddled together about 6 feet apart watching Bailey prance around. Hmm, wonder who herded whom?? :-)
Bailey must have overheard me complaining that there weren't enough extension cords in the house. So he decided to help out and create several cords out of 1 that was left within his reach - not plugged in of course. 12-gauge wire....no match for whippet teeth!
Bailey has a warm winter jacket inherited from Breezer. It's fleece-lined on the inside, primaloft middle layer and tough nylon exterior - slows him down a little, but not much. Here he is tearing around at full tilt thoroughly enjoying himself!
Welcome to Bailey's voice on the 'net! Bailey is a 2 year old male whippet who lives in Calgary - his favourite activities are running, eating and sleeping. wotta surprise.
As a quick introduction, here's a photo taken in the summer. There will be more to come as we will communicate more via pictures than words.Ken
