Long Time No Post

Life has been in turmoil for the last month since our neighbour started his house on fire (careless smoking).  This photo shows the fence between our houses, the fire started with the neighbour's shed on the right.  By the time the first fire engine arrived, our beautiful tree seen on the left was up in flames and our house was also on fire.  We're in a rented property until April, when we get to move back into our (newly renovated) house!

Meanwhile, we still get to run and play on The Hill.  The weather so far has been mostly warm enough for the whippets to run without their jackets.

From before the fire, the whippets enjoy the leather couch.  Still waiting to hear from the insurance company on the fate of our belongings, we suspect this couch may be written off due to smoke damage.

Summer Was Good

A Cool Day for a Run

The whippets slow down and drag their tails on hot summer days, but during an unusually cool day they got in a good run.

Although he's slowed down over the last year, Bailey shows that he can still break the sound barrier when so inclined.  It does the heart good to see him engaged in the chase game again.

After the run they enjoy catching late afternoon sun on the people bed.

Melted Whippets

It was a hot one earlier this week, temps hit 35 degrees C (95 F).  Instead of wanting to go out, the whippets stayed home and melted into the furniture.

Summertime!

The heavy rains and unprecedented flooding have abated, giving Southern Alberta a chance to assess damage and begin the recovery process.  We are fortunate to live next to The Hill at higher elevation and were not affected, but the whippets were lonely for a while as I joined the thousands of fellow volunteers to help with some of the clean-up and support. 

Bailey will be 9 in October and has slowed down in the last year, but on this day he showed his old form and raced around to bring in the summer.

We dodged a hail storm.......

....but once things dried up the whippets claimed their rightful spot.
